About MedicWatch

MedicWatch is an independent record service that aggregates publicly published decisions of UK healthcare regulators into per-practitioner profile pages with plain-English summaries. It exists to help patients and family members find a clear, faithful, persistent record of any regulatory action concerning a UK doctor, nurse, midwife, dentist, or dental care professional.

Why this site exists

UK healthcare regulators publish their decisions, but each does so on its own website, in its own format, with its own time-limits. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service publishes individual tribunal PDFs scattered across pages. The Nursing and Midwifery Council retains the most recent three months of outcomes on its main page. The Dental Professionals Hearings Service publishes a decisions bank with similar format constraints.

Crucially, the General Medical Council removes erasure records from its register after ten years. This means a doctor who was struck off in, for example, 2010 may no longer appear in any search of the GMC’s own systems — even though the public has a clear interest in being able to find the record.

MedicWatchretains the persistent record under the journalism exemption in UK data protection law. We aggregate, structure, and translate the regulators’ decisions into plain English so that the people most affected by them — patients and their families — can find them.
