Concerning Georgios Kantopoulos, dentist (General Dental Council 105577).
Decision date: 29 July 2026 · Hearing started 21 July 2026 and ended 29 July 2026
In plain English
The GDC tribunal decided that George Kantopoulos should be suspended for 12 months after workplace sexual-harassment and unprofessional-conduct findings concerning a practice computer and comments to a colleague. Sexual motivation was not proved, and several allegations were rejected. The committee ordered a review and immediate suspension. The hearing page records an appeal on 31 August 2026 and states that suspension remains in place pending its resolution.
Charges
The allegations concerned accessing pornography on a practice computer on two occasions and comments or conduct towards dental nurses, alleged to be disrespectful, unprofessional, sexual harassment and/or sexually motivated. Two charges were withdrawn after an application to admit an absent witness's statement was rejected.
Findings
The committee found that accessing pornography on a practice computer and comments about a colleague's sexuality amounted to sexual harassment. Asking that colleague to stay after work for paperwork was unprofessional but was not proved to be sexual harassment. Sexual motivation was not proved, and several other allegations were not proved. It found misconduct and current impairment, noting incomplete insight and remediation and actual harm to a colleague. It imposed a 12-month suspension with a review, finding erasure disproportionate. Immediate suspension covers the appeal period and any appeal; the substantive suspension begins 28 days after deemed service unless appealed. Any interim order relating to this case was revoked. The official hearing page reports an appeal lodged on 31 August 2026 and states that suspension remains in place pending its resolution.
Mitigating and aggravating factors
Mitigating factors
• some developing understanding of the misconduct; • evidence of remorse and apology; • some reflection on the impact of the behaviour; • the beginnings of remediation; and • testimonials speaking to positive working relationships with three colleagues over an extended period, albeit they appeared to be from colleagues who worked with you some years prior to the events in question.
Aggravating factors
• the conduct was not isolated but comprised multiple instances of inappropriate behaviour; • lack of full understanding of the gravity of the misconduct and its impact; • limited remediation; • an imbalance of power between you and the colleagues affected; • and actual harm caused to a colleague.
