What does “suspended from practice” mean?
A suspension is a fixed-term pause on the right to practise. The practitioner cannot work in the regulated profession during the suspension. At the end of the period the suspension may be extended, replaced with another sanction, or lifted on review.

Details of charge: That you, a registered nurse, between 8 November 2022 and 19 March 2024 failed to demonstrate the standards of knowledge, skills and judgement required to practise without supervision as a band 5 nurse, in any and/or all of the following areas: 1. Record keeping in that you: i. Completed patient notes that were illegible, on one or more occasion. ii. On 24 February 2023 did not record changes to patient ventilation settings. iii. On 24 February 2023 incorrectly documented the fluid balance in relation to Patient A. Page 3 of 56 iv. Did not clearly document the plan for patient care, on one or more occasion. 2. Communication in that you: i. On an unknown date failed to properly understand and follow instructions from a doctor in relation to Patient B. ii. Failed to accurately convey all vital information in relation to patient care, on one or more occasion. iii. Did not provide an appropriate handover to colleagues on one or more occasion. iv. Did not accurately communicate the deterioration and/or change in the condition of a patient, on one or more occasion. v. On 24 February 2023 did not communicate that you did not understand instructions in relation to Patient C. vi. On 24 February 2023 failed to escalate the deteriorating condition of Patient D. 3. Medication Management and administration in that you: i. On 10 June 2023, prepared to repeat a dosage of medication that had previously been administered ii. On 5 July 2023, were unable to read prescriptions on infusion charts and instructions on prescriptions iii. Prepared wrong dosages of medication on one or more occasion. 4. Clinical Procedures in that you: i. On 13 July 2023 did not flush an IVAB. ii. On 25 July 2023, could not auscultate a patient’s chest iii. On a date between 23 October 2023 and 26 October 2023, administered a 200ml flush which was more than the Page 4 of 56 amount required iv. On 22 December 2023, prepared to administer a gravity feed to a patient with the feed line full of air. AND in light of the above, your fitness to practise is impaired by reason of your lack of competence.
