Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service determination — substantive hearing
Suspended from practice — 6 months
The regulator’s term: suspension
What does “suspended from practice” mean?
A suspension is a fixed-term pause on the right to practise. The practitioner cannot work in the regulated profession during the suspension. At the end of the period the suspension may be extended, replaced with another sanction, or lifted on review.
Concerning Kate Eve, doctor (General Medical Council 6074387).
Decision date: 9 December 2025 · Hearing started 1 December 2025 and ended 9 December 2025
This sanction period has elapsed.
In plain English
The MPTS tribunal found that Dr Eve's fitness to practise was impaired following her conviction on 19 July 2024 at Leeds Magistrates' Court for drink driving on 3 July 2024, with a breath alcohol reading of 151 micrograms per 100 millilitres. She was sentenced to 8 weeks custody suspended for 12 months and disqualified from driving for 36 months. The tribunal assessed the risk as medium, found conditions insufficient to mark the seriousness of the conviction, and imposed a 6-month suspension with a review hearing directed.
Charges
The GMC alleged that on 19 July 2024 at Leeds Magistrates' Court, Dr Eve was convicted of driving a motor vehicle on 3 July 2024 after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion in her breath, namely 151 micrograms per 100 millilitres, exceeded the prescribed limit. She was sentenced to 8 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months, 100 hours of unpaid community work, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for 36 months. All facts were admitted and found proved.
Findings
The Tribunal found that Dr Eve's fitness to practise was impaired by reason of her conviction. It assessed the conduct as involving a calculated risk to herself and the public, and found that all three limbs of public protection were engaged. The Tribunal assessed the ongoing risk at medium level. Both parties agreed that a significant personal context was intrinsically linked to the conviction. The Tribunal determined that conditions were insufficient to address the seriousness of the conviction and to maintain public confidence. A 6-month suspension with a review hearing was imposed. An immediate order of suspension was applied.
