Nursing and Midwifery Council determination — review hearing

Struck off the register

The regulator’s term: erasure

What does “struck off the register” mean?

Being struck off (the regulator calls this "erasure") removes the practitioner from the register. They are no longer permitted to practise this profession in the UK. Erasure can be reviewed after a minimum of five years, but is otherwise indefinite.

Concerning Bjork Sabino, midwife (Nursing and Midwifery Council 00C2160E).

Decision date: 9 February 2026 · Hearing started 9 February 2026

In plain English

The NMC found that Ms Bjork Sabino, a registered midwife, had her fitness to practise reviewed following a 12-month suspension for misconduct and lack of competence including dishonesty. The panel found she had taken no steps to remediate during the suspension period and had no intention to return to nursing. The panel concluded the only appropriate sanction was a striking-off order, taking effect on 18 March 2026.

Charges

The original substantive hearing found charges of lack of competence and misconduct proved, including dishonesty. A 12-month suspension order was imposed at that hearing.

Findings

At the review hearing, the panel found Ms Sabino's fitness to practise currently impaired. Since the suspension was imposed, she provided no evidence of remediation, had not demonstrated developed insight, had not engaged in relevant training, and had stated through the RCN that she did not intend to return to nursing. The panel concluded a further suspension would serve no useful purpose and imposed a striking-off order to take effect on 18 March 2026.
