Nursing and Midwifery Council determination — interim orders hearing

Interim restrictions imposed — 18 months

The regulator’s term: interim order imposed

What does “interim restrictions imposed” mean?

An interim order is a precautionary restriction imposed before the regulator's investigation is complete. It is not a finding of fault — the underlying allegations have not yet been adjudicated.

Concerning Daniel John Purnell, nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council 95J1944E).

Decision date: 9 April 2026 · Hearing started 9 April 2026

In plain English

The NMC's Investigating Committee found that an interim conditions of practice order was needed for Daniel John Purnell, a registered nurse, while the regulator decides whether there is a case to answer about allegations made against him. The committee directed an 18-month order limiting his work to two named employers, restricting him to a non-patient-facing resuscitation training role with adults, and banning freelance nursing work. The order will be reviewed within six months. No findings have yet been made about the underlying allegations.

Charges

The NMC Case Examiners have not yet decided whether there is a case to answer in relation to the allegations made against Mr Purnell. The substantive allegations are not set out in this Investigating Committee New Interim Order Hearing record.

Findings

The Investigating Committee directed an interim conditions of practice order for a period of 18 months. Conditions limit work to two named substantive employers (Back to Life Ltd and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust); prohibit any patient-facing role, restricting practice to a resuscitation/training role with adult learners; prohibit freelance work requiring his NMC PIN; and require notification and reporting to the NMC. The order will be reviewed within the next six months and every six months thereafter. The case has not yet been determined by Case Examiners.
