Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service determination — substantive hearing

Suspended from practice — 1 year

The regulator’s term: suspension

What does “suspended from practice” mean?

A suspension is a fixed-term pause on the right to practise. The practitioner cannot work in the regulated profession during the suspension. At the end of the period the suspension may be extended, replaced with another sanction, or lifted on review.

Concerning Sayed Mia, doctor (General Medical Council 4714415).

Decision date: 19 December 2025 · Hearing started 3 December 2025 and ended 19 December 2025

In plain English

The MPTS tribunal found that Dr Sayed Mia's fitness to practise was impaired by reason of misconduct. He had carried out surgical procedures at premises not registered with the CQC, then given false information to CQC inspectors when they visited, and omitted the work from a Declaration of Concerns form. The tribunal imposed a 12-month suspension, finding erasure disproportionate given his engagement with proceedings and steps towards remediation. A review hearing was directed.

Charges

Dr Mia was alleged to have carried out surgical procedures including gynaecomastia and liposuction at unregistered premises at 41 Harley Street between October and November 2023. On 14 November 2023, when CQC inspectors visited, he gave a false name, claimed to be a patient and denied being a medical doctor. He later omitted his work at the premises from a Declaration of Concerns form submitted to his designated body in January 2024. The dishonesty allegations were contested; the remaining allegations were admitted.

Findings

The Tribunal found all allegations proved, including that Dr Mia had acted dishonestly towards the CQC inspectors and by withholding information from his designated body. It found his fitness to practise impaired with the risk to public protection assessed as high. The Tribunal imposed a 12-month suspension at the upper end of the relevant banding, finding erasure disproportionate given Dr Mia's engagement with proceedings, expressions of remorse, and early steps towards remediation. A review hearing was directed.
