What does “practising with restrictions” mean?

The GDC's Professional Conduct Committee found that Adam Allin Mohamood Dirir, a dentist, remains impaired in his fitness to practise by reason of misconduct. At a review on 19 June 2026, it decided to extend the existing conditions on his registration for a further 12 months. He has not practised as a dentist since 2022 and needs more time to show he has addressed the concerns identified in an earlier case. The order will be reviewed before it ends.
Charges
The conditions of practice order under review was originally imposed by the Professional Conduct Committee in June 2021 following findings of misconduct arising from a single-patient case in 2019. The misconduct concerned a failure to take bitewing radiographs, poor record keeping, and laboratory prescriptions. The order had been reviewed and extended for 12 months on several occasions between 2022 and 2025.
Findings
At this review, the Professional Conduct Committee found that Mr Dirir's fitness to practise remains impaired by reason of misconduct, on both public protection and public interest grounds. It noted he has not practised as a dentist since 2022 and has not yet been able to embed learning to address the deficiencies identified in his clinical practice, leaving a continuing risk. The GDC had invited an extension of 18 to 24 months, but the Committee considered a 12-month extension proportionate. It extended the existing conditions of practice, unvaried, for a further 12 months from 19 July 2026, with a review before the order expires.
