Dental Professionals Hearings Service determination — registration appeal
Appeal succeeded
The regulator’s term: appeal allowed
What does “appeal succeeded” mean?
The practitioner appealed against an administrative decision (typically a refusal of registration or removal from the register) and the regulator's appeal committee allowed the appeal — the original decision was overturned.
Concerning Tanzeena Ashraf, dental hygienist (General Dental Council 334276).
Decision date: 25 March 2026 · Hearing started 25 March 2026
In plain English
The GDC tribunal decided to allow Tanzeena Ashraf's appeal against the refusal of her application for registration as a dental hygienist. The Registration Appeals Committee found she had demonstrated the requisite knowledge and skill, including through recent clinical work in India between December 2025 and January 2026. Her appeal was allowed on the knowledge and skill requirement, and her case was remitted to the Registrar to assess the remaining registration requirements.
Charges
Appeal against the Registrar's refusal to grant registration as a Dental Hygienist. Two Registration Assessment Panels had previously determined that Mrs Ashraf had not demonstrated the requisite knowledge and skill required under Section 36C(4) of the Dentists Act 1984.
Findings
The Registration Appeals Committee found that Mrs Ashraf had met all the learning outcomes relevant to the practice of a Dental Hygienist and was satisfied she would be a safe and competent addition to the DCP register. The appeal was allowed in respect of Matter C (knowledge and skill). The case was remitted back to the Registrar for assessment of the remaining requirements for registration under Matter D (identity, English, good character, health).
