What does “voluntary removal from the register” mean?

The practitioner asked to be removed from the register and the regulator accepted the request. This may happen during or after a fitness-to-practise case.

Concerning Brenna Allsuch, nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council 19I0351O).

Decision date: 11 August 2026

In plain English

The NMC agreed that Brenna Allsuch could be removed from the nursing register by agreement. The NMC was investigating allegations about medication errors, record keeping and clinical advice, none of which has been found proved by a statutory committee. An assistant registrar decided she no longer intends to work as a nurse, that the allegations were unlikely to result in a striking-off order, and that removal was in the public interest.

Charges

A referral received on 8 April 2024 alleged that Brenna Allsuch misappropriated a strip of medication, left keys in a patient's room and left the drug trolley open, made medication administration errors, gave incorrect medical advice about a subcutaneous injection, and failed to administer medications in a timely manner. During the investigation further concerns came to light that she failed to maintain adequate standards of record keeping, failed to escalate clinical issues when carrying out pre-assessment checks, incorrectly advised a patient about their results, failed to inform a patient when to stop their medication, and failed to give MSSA treatment to a patient who had tested positive. The NMC states that no allegation has yet been found substantively proved by one of its statutory committees.

Findings

This is an agreed removal decision made by an assistant registrar under Rule 14 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (Education, Registration and Registration Appeals) Rules 2004, not a determination by a statutory committee. Brenna Allsuch applied for agreed removal on 11 March 2026. She explained that it was not her intention to be dishonest when she had taken the incorrect medication, but accepts that her behaviour fell below the standards expected of a registered nurse. The assistant registrar took into account comments from the person who made the allegation, the application and supporting documentation, information from the investigation to date, her reflective statement, her interests and the public interest, and was satisfied that she no longer intends to work as a registered nurse, that although serious the allegations are not likely to result in a striking-off order, that there are no other good reasons to consider the allegations further at this time, and that the public interest is best served by agreeing the application. The decision will be published for twelve months from 11 August 2026, and the matters may be considered further if she seeks readmission.
