Dental Professionals Hearings Service determination — registration appeal
Appeal succeeded
The regulator’s term: appeal allowed
What does “appeal succeeded” mean?
The practitioner appealed against an administrative decision (typically a refusal of registration or removal from the register) and the regulator's appeal committee allowed the appeal — the original decision was overturned.
Concerning Sahar Wasiq, dental therapist.
Decision date: 20 March 2026 · Hearing started 13 March 2026
In plain English
The GDC tribunal decided that Sahar Wasiq's appeal against the refusal of her application to register as a dental therapist was allowed. The Registration Appeals Committee found that Ms Wasiq, who holds a dental surgery degree from Pakistan, had demonstrated the required knowledge and skills to work as a dental therapist in the UK. The Committee accepted advice from its Professional Adviser that her recent clinical experience in Pakistan and her oral evidence addressed the gaps identified by earlier assessment panels. The case was referred back to the Registrar to complete the remaining registration checks.
Charges
Appeal against the Registrar's decision to refuse Ms Wasiq's application for registration as a dental therapist. The Registrar refused the application following two assessment panel reviews concluding that Ms Wasiq had not demonstrated the requisite knowledge and skill to practise as a dental therapist, relying on her Bachelor of Dental Surgery obtained in Pakistan in 2008.
Findings
The Registration Appeals Committee allowed the appeal in relation to Matter C (knowledge and skill). The Committee accepted advice from the independent Professional Adviser that Ms Wasiq's BDS from Pakistan would include the knowledge required of a dental therapist in the UK, and that she had demonstrated in oral evidence and documentary evidence the clinical skills identified as missing by the previous assessment panels. The Committee found her recent clinical work in Pakistan and the detailed professional reference demonstrated the requisite knowledge and skill. The case was remitted to the Registrar with directions that she meets the requirements of Matter C, and that her registration be granted subject to satisfying the requirements of Matter D (identity, character, English, health).
