The HCPTS review panel found that physiotherapist Sreenithi Sudhakar remained impaired after proven clinical-reasoning and patient-care failings. With no evidence of insight or remediation, it extended her suspension for 12 months from 11 August 2022.
Charges
The underlying allegation concerned inadequate clinical reasoning between January and September 2019 and failure to provide the necessary level of care to Patient A on 28 August 2019, including incorrect equipment setup, failures to recognise and respond to monitor alarms and desaturation, and failure to provide oxygen, said to amount to misconduct and/or lack of competence and impairment.
Findings
The substantive panel proved Particular 1(a) and Particulars 2(a)-2(e), while Particular 1(b) was not proved, and found lack of competence and impairment. At review, there was no evidence of insight or remediation and the Panel found continuing impairment on both personal and public components. Because striking off was not yet legally available for lack of competence, it extended suspension for 12 months from 11 August 2022, with review before 10 August 2023.
