The HCPTS panel struck biomedical scientist Simon A Lockyear off after more than three years of suspension for serious laboratory reporting failures. He had not engaged since February 2022 or provided evidence of remediation, health management or current competence. The panel concluded that conditions would not protect the public and further suspension would serve no purpose.
Charges
Mr Lockyear repeatedly released unsubstantiated organism identifications and antibiotic sensitivity results, reported results before they could have been available, omitted required plate labels and failed to refer specimens for further culture work.
Findings
The review found that Mr Lockyear remained impaired because he had provided no evidence about his health, remediation, employment or current circumstances and had not engaged since February 2022. After more than three years of continuous suspension without addressing the failures, the panel found that further suspension served no purpose and ordered striking off.
