What does “struck off the register” mean?
Being struck off (the regulator calls this "erasure") removes the practitioner from the register. They are no longer permitted to practise this profession in the UK. Erasure can be reviewed after a minimum of five years, but is otherwise indefinite.

The HCPTS allegation section states: is serious, the conduct was notfundamentally incompatible with the Registrant remaining on theregister, and hence, a Striking Off Order would not be justified. 179. The Panel considered that a Suspension Order was theappropriate sanction to impose because:• The matters found proved, as set out in the Panel’s determination onmisconduct, represented serious breaches of the Standards of ConductPerformance and Ethics;• The Registrant has demonstrated some insight into his failingsparticularly in relation to Particular 1;• The Panel was mindful that a striking off order was appropriate for themost serious cases of dishonesty. It considered that the Registrant'sfailings were not so serious that they were fundamentally incompatiblewith remaining on the register. In reaching that conclusion, it had regardto paragraph 121 of the SP which states that a Suspension Order maybe appropriate where “there is evidence to suggest that the Registrantis likely to be able to resolve or remedy their failings”. The Panel noted,as set out in the Panel’s determination on impairment, that theRegistrant has developed some insight into his dishonest behavioureven though that process was not as yet complete. 180. To satisfy itself that a Suspension Order was the appropriate andproportionate sanction to impose, the Panel considered whether aStriking-off Order was justified. It had regard to paragraph 130 of the SPwhich states that: “A striking off order is a sanction of last resort forserious, persistent, deliberate or reckless acts” whilst setting out a nonexhaustivelist of applicable circumstances. The Panel was satisfied,given the identified mitigating factors, that the facts of this case werenot of such gravity so as to merit such a restrictive sanction.
