What does “voluntary removal from the register” mean?

The practitioner asked to be removed from the register and the regulator accepted the request. This may happen during or after a fitness-to-practise case.

Concerning Victor Clarence Japson, nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council 23K2248O).

Decision date: 20 May 2026

In plain English

The NMC decided to remove Victor Clarence Japson, an adult nurse from the Devon area, from its register by agreement on 20 May 2026. He applied for agreed removal after a referral alleged his performance did not meet required standards in areas including medication administration and wound care. No allegation was found proved; the NMC was satisfied he no longer intends to work as a registered nurse and that removal served the public interest.

Charges

It was alleged that Mr Japson was not able to demonstrate the standards of knowledge, skill and judgement required to practise without supervision as a registered nurse, in the areas of medication administration, coordination of patients, wound care, communication, and retention of information. No allegation was found substantively proved by a statutory committee.

Findings

An Assistant Registrar agreed to Mr Japson's application for removal from the NMC register under Rule 14, satisfied that he no longer intends to work as a registered nurse, that the allegations were not likely to result in a striking-off order, that there were no other good reasons requiring the allegations to be considered further, and that the public interest was best served by agreeing the removal. Mr Japson accepted the concerns and expressed remorse; the record of the decision is published for twelve months.
