What does “appeal against removal dismissed” mean?
The practitioner appealed against an administrative decision (typically removal from the register for non-compliance) and the regulator's appeal committee dismissed the appeal — the original decision stands.
Concerning Muneeb Amjad, dentist.
Decision date: 18 May 2026 · Hearing started 18 May 2026
In plain English
The GDC's Registration Appeals Committee decided to dismiss Muneeb Amjad's appeal against the Registrar's refusal to register him as a dentist. The Registrar had declined the application on good character grounds after Mr Amjad submitted an altered qualification certificate in support of a separate application to join the dental care professionals register. The Committee found his actions were dishonest and was not satisfied he had demonstrated the good character required for registration.
Charges
Appeal against the decision of the Registrar of the General Dental Council to refuse registration as a dentist on the ground that the good character requirement under section 15(3)(b) of the Dentists Act 1984 was not satisfied. The Registrar found the appellant had acted in a dishonest manner by providing fraudulent documents in support of an application to join the dental care professionals register, and that registering him would risk undermining public confidence in the profession.
Findings
The Committee was satisfied that the appellant's actions in forging and then submitting a fraudulent qualification for registration onto the DCP register were dishonest. It noted his admissions during oral evidence that the forgery was a deliberate attempt to deceive the GDC, and that he only withdrew the application once the qualification was questioned. The Committee was not satisfied that he fully appreciated the significance of his actions, that he had a proper understanding of the standards expected, or that he had provided sufficient evidence of good character as required for registration. The appeal was dismissed.
