Concerning Irena Sluszniak, nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council 07H0065C).
Decision date: 6 February 2026 · Hearing started 6 February 2026
In plain English
The NMC's Fitness to Practise Committee reviewed Irena Sluszniak's existing suspension order at a meeting on 6 February 2026. The original misconduct involved failures to call an ambulance, monitor a patient's blood sugars, and document clinical actions on two separate occasions. Irena Sluszniak had not engaged with the NMC and had provided no evidence of insight or remediation. The panel allowed the suspension order to lapse on expiry on 12 March 2026 with a formal finding of impairment remaining, rather than imposing a further order or striking off.
Charges
The original charges found proved included: on 14 December 2019, failing to call an ambulance and failing to document events in sufficient detail in relation to Patient A; and on the night shift from 17 to 18 July 2020, failing to record reasons for administering a sedative, failing to monitor blood sugars regularly, failing to record or document symptoms and actions, failing to escalate high blood sugar levels to the on-call doctor, and failing to carry out or document observations in relation to Patient B.
Findings
The review panel found that Irena Sluszniak's fitness to practise remained impaired. She had not engaged with the NMC since the substantive hearing, had not attended the review, and had not provided any evidence of insight, reflection, remediation or plans to return to practice. The panel determined that a further suspension order would serve no useful purpose and that a striking-off order was not appropriate. The panel allowed the existing suspension order to lapse upon expiry with a finding of impairment, in accordance with NMC guidance REV-2h. The order was to lapse on 12 March 2026 in accordance with Article 30(1).
