What does “voluntary removal from the register” mean?
The practitioner asked to be removed from the register and the regulator accepted the request. This may happen during or after a fitness-to-practise case.
Concerning Gurprit Poonia, nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council 08F0830E).
Decision date: 21 May 2026
In plain English
The NMC agreed to remove nurse Gurprit Poonia from its register on 21 May 2026 at her own application. A referral had alleged she failed to demonstrate the standards of knowledge, skill and judgment required to practise without supervision, including in catheterisation, record keeping and injection techniques. No allegation was found proved by a statutory committee. An Assistant Registrar decided she no longer intends to work as a registered nurse and the allegations were not likely to result in a striking-off order.
Charges
It was alleged that she failed to demonstrate the standards of knowledge, skill and judgment required to practise without supervision as a nurse in the following areas: catheterisation; record keeping; tissue viability; professional conduct and communication with patients; injection techniques. No allegation has been found substantively proved by a statutory committee.
Findings
An Assistant Registrar, acting under delegated authority and Rule 14 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (Education, Registration and Registration Appeals) Rules 2004, agreed to Gurprit Poonia's application for agreed removal from the NMC register. The Assistant Registrar was satisfied that she no longer intends to work as a registered nurse, that the allegations were not likely to result in a striking-off order, that there were no other good reasons requiring further consideration of the allegations, and that the public interest was best served by agreeing the removal. A record of the decision is published for twelve months from 21 May 2026.
